Mauricio brace helps Odisha FC hold JFC to 2-2 draw
29 Nov 2020

Riding on a brilliant brace by substitute Diego Mauricio, Odisha FC fought back 2-0 down to hold Jamshedpur FC to 2-2 draw in the 10th match of the Hero Indian Super League at Tilak Maidan in Goa today. With this draw, Odisha FC secured their first point in two games. Earlier, Odisha FC lost their opening match against Hyderabad FC 1-0 on November 23.

Nerijus Valskis scored twice (12`, 27`) in the first half to put Jamshedpur FC in a commanding position. The second half was filled with plenty of drama as Diego Mauricio scored in the 77th and injury-time (90+3’) to wrap up the thrilling draw.

Lituanian striker Valskis gave Jamshedpur FC the lead from the spot in the 12th minute. Referee Pratik Mondal awarded the penalty kick after Odisha defender Gaurav Bora committed a hand-ball inside the box while trying to clear a Valskis shot. Valskis doubled the JFC lead by capitalizing on a defensive lapse three minutes before the half hour mark.

The match took a dramatic turn when Jamshedpur goalkeeper TP Rehenesh got sent off in the 74th minute for handling the ball outside the penalty area. Substitute Mauricio struck the resulting freekick against the post, but the ball soon found its way back to him and he was able to bundle it in.

With 10-men Jamshedpur defending doggedly, it appeared as if Odisha FC were running out of time. However, Mauricio had other ideas. In stoppage time, the Brazilian unleashed a powerful shot from just inside the box that beat opposition substitute goalkeeper Pawan Kumar all ends up.

Though Mauricio was only on the pitch for 30 minutes, his brace, especially the second one fetched him the award as Hero of the Match. The Club Award was shared by both the teams, while the Winning Pass of the Match was claimed by Alexandre Lima of Jamshedpur FC.

ODISHA FC RESULTS SO FAR:
