Odisha bagged four medals on the third day of the 36th National Junior Athletics Championship at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati, Assam today. The four medals featured one silver and three bronze. After third day, the total medal for Odisha reached six, which includes one gold, two silver and three bronze.
Sabita Toppo emerged as the most successful Odisha athlete, adding the U-16 girls 80m hurdles silver medal today to the long-jump gold she had on bagged earlier on the opening day (February 6). In the hurdles event, she finished second with a time of 11.77 seconds.
The three bronze medals of the day were captured by Rajendra Sidhu in U-16 boys 80m hurdles (10.84 sec), Ommkar Prasad Nanda in U-14 boys shot put (16.33m) and Prachi Priyadasini Maharana in U-14 girls ball-throw (50.21m) events.
Among other Odisha competitors in action today, Ankita Mohapatra finished 14th in U-14 girls shot put (9.50m). Earlier on the second day (Feb 7), Madhumita Deb secured 5th position in U-20 girls 100m sprint, Dilip Naik finished sixth in U-20 boys 1500m run, Lalu Prasad Bhoi got sixth place in U-18 boys long jump and Anshika Routray ended 13th in U-16 girls discus.
