Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra was re-elected as the president of International Federation (FIH) at its 47th Congress, which concluded virtually today. Dr Batra, who is also the president of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and member of International Olympic Committee (IOC), retained the post for a four-year term.
Dr Batra defeated Marc Coudron of Belgium by the closest margin of two votes (63-61). A total of 124 members voted in the elections. Dr Batra had become the first Indian to head the FIH in 2016. He will continue to serve as President of FIH till 2024.
Besides the post of president, two FIH honorary awards came to India’s way at the FIH Congress. Hockey India won the Etienne Glichitch Award in recognition of its contribution to the growth and development of the sport in the country.
