  Wheelchair fencers bag 9 more National medals

Odisha bagged another nine medals on the second and last day of the 13th National Wheelchair Fencing Championship in Karnal, Haryana today. The nine medals featured two gold, four silver and three bronze.

With four medals coming earlier on the opening day, the total medals for Odisha reached 15. The tally is most likely to be increased further as team events are underway when the report was received.

International Rakhal Sethy and Pujaswini Nayak won the two gold medals of the day for Odisha in Men-A individual foil and Women-B individual sabre events respectively.

 

In the all-Odisha men individual foil final, Sethi beat won 15-12 over his statemate V Ramesh Rao, who settled with the silver medal. Among other Odisha medal winners of the day, Prafulla Khandayatray secured silver in Men-B individual foil after losing to Devendra Kumar of Haryana in the final 13-15.

Niku Pradhan was another successful Odisha fencer, pocketing one bronze medal each in Men-B individual epee and foil. In Women-A cagetory, Malti Panaure settled for individual epee silver medal after going down to Rekha of Haryana in the summit clash 10-15.

Sheela Mantri and Karimun Nisha were other two successful Odisha women, securing silver and bronze respectively in individual sabre.
