  U-16 Cricket: Abhinab, Ashish excel with willow

Captains Abhinab Nanda and Ashish Mallick hit a century each to script impressive wins for Sambalpur and Rourkela respectively in two preliminary league matches of the Inter-District U-16 Boys Cricket Tournament at different grounds in Khordha and Bhubaneswar today.

Abhinab hit a 152-ball 179 as Sambalpur crushed Rayagada by 299 runs. On the other hand a 137-ball 136 by Ashish helped Rourkela trounce Jagatsinghpur by 238 runs. Angul, Kendrapara, Ganjam and Mayurbhanj posted wins in four other matches of the day.

Shreyansh Bhardwaj (72 runs, 3 wickets) and Krishna Mohanty (60* and 4/25) played instrumental roles in the wins for Angul and Kendrapara respectively. Rudra Biswal of of Balasore was the most successful bowler of the day with a haul of 5/64. But his efforts went in vains as Balasore lost to Angul.
 

Satya P Behera (Angul), Isan K Patra (Kendrapara), Rehan Khan (Rourkela) and Krish Yadav (Sambalpur) were other outsanding bowlers of the day, capturing four wickets apiece.

Match 73 (At Hi-Tech Ground, Bhubaneswar): Angul 217/9 in 50 overs (Shreyansh Bhardwaj 72, Panakala Sasanka 49; Rudra Biswal 5/64) beat Balasore 122/10 in 43.1 overs (Shivam Agarwal 45, Tanmay Behera 20; Satya P Behera 4/26, Shreyansh Bhardwaj 3/17, Anindit Pradhan 2/20) by 95 runs.

Match 74 (At Centurion Ground, Jatni): Kendrapara 153/10 in 28.5 overs (Krishna Mohanty 60*; Ratiranjan Barik 3/14, Pritam Behera 3/36, Amit K Sahu 2/53) beat Boudh 90/10 in 41 overs (Pritam Behera 20; Krishna Mohanty 4/25, Isan K Patra 4/15) by 63 runs.

Match 75 (At Paramount Ground, Bhubaneswar): Ganjam 195/10 in 39 overs (Sujit Jani 75, Debasish Behera 28; Chinmay Naik 3/31, Ajinder Singh 3/28, Arpit Kumar Panda 3/27) beat Kalahandi 90/10 in 26.3 overs (Adhibas Pattnaik 28; Vaibhab Sharma 3/18, Sibun Nanda 2/20) by 105 runs.

Match 76 (At Town Club Ground, Bhubaneswar): Rourkela 300/9 in 50 overs (Ashish K Mallick 136, Adarsh Raiguru 46; Sayad Mehfush Nawaz 2/54) beat Jagatsinghpur 62/10 in 18.1 overs (Rehan Khan 4/20, Sk M Naqueeb 3/8, Snehal K Samantaray 2/15) by 238 runs.

Match 77 (At Khordha Ground): Sambalpur 328/10 in 47.2 overs (Abhinab Nanda 179, Sashwat Prasad 36; Swayam R Mahapatra 2/12, Raj K Mahanadia 2/68, Arpit Das 2/66) beat Rayagada 29/10 in 17.0 overs (Krish Yadav 4/5, Harshdeep Singh 3/17) by 299 runs.

Match 78 (At CV Raman Ground, Bhubaneswar): Koraput 69/10 in 27.5 overs (Roshan Choudhury 3/11, Surai Hembram 3/12, Naman Sharma 2/10) lost to Mayurbhanj 70/5 24 overs (Jay Kumar 20; Subham Halan 2/16, Partha S Lenka 2/25) by 5 wickets.
