Mangala Club of Cuttack created a record of sorts in the 1st AIFF-Hero Futsal Club Championship, hammering Real Kashmir Football Club 18-3 in their second Group-D match at KD Jadhav Hall, Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex in New Delhi today.
This was the second successive win for Cuttack-based Mangala Club, who had trounced Sudeva Delhi FC 5-3 in their opening match earlier on November 6. The 18 goals against Real Kashmir are the highest, scored by any team in the ongoing tournament.
Mangala captain Dinabandhu Das spearheaded his team to the huge win today, scoring eight goals. He was adjudged the Player of the Match. Das formed a ferocious combination with Babul Kumar Rout, who netted six goals. Joining the goal deluge for Mangala, Bijay Kumar Barik and Niranjan Behera struck twice each.
Mangala Club will play their third and last league match against Classic Football Academy on November 10 and the winner of this match will advance to the semifinals. Classic Football Academy is now leading the Group-D table with six points, the same as Mangala Club.
But Classic FA is ahead in terms of goal difference, scoring 21 goals and conceding just one. On the other hand, Mangala Club has conceded six goals, while scoring 23. A total of 16 teams are participating in the tournament.
