Utkal Karate School emerged team champions, bagging a total of 51 medals in the 10th Odisha State Shooting Championship, which concluded in Bhubaneswar yesterday. The 51 medals featured 17 gold, 17 silver and 17 bronze. Talcher Rifle Club finished second with 19 medals (8 gold, 8 silver, 3 bronze).
Odisha Aditya Birla-Gagan Narang Shooting HPC secured third positions with 14 medals (5 gold, 3 silver, 6 bronzse). Koraput, Jharsuguda, Cuttack and Kalahandi occupied fourth to seventh positions respectively. The four-day championship was organised by Orissa Rifle Association (ORA) at Utkal Karate Schoo and Kalinga Stadium Shooting Range in Bhubaneswar.
Around 250 shooters from 15 affiliated district and four club units participated. The affiliated clubs were: Talcher Rifle Club, Aditya Birla-Gagan Narang Shooting High Performance Centre, Utkal Karate School, Rourkela Rifle Club and Balasore Rifle Club.
Hockey Olympian Dilip Tirkey, ORA vice-president Romio Kanta Nanda, secretary Hari Prasad Pattanayak and Talcher Rifle Club joint-secretary Sarat Chandra Deb handed over the medals at the closing ceremony.
According to ORA press release, the State championship served as a basis for selection of Odisha squad for the East Zone and Pre-National G V Mavlankar Shooting Championships.
