A brave knock of 66 by Tanmayee Behera and her 85-run partnership for the sixth wicket with G M Alakananda went in vain as Odisha suffered a seven-wicket defeat against Karnataka in their opening Elite Group-E league match of the BCCI Under-19 Women One-Day Tournament at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur today.

Opting to bat after captain Subhra Nirjharini Swain won the toss, Odisha compiled 175 for eight in 50 overs. Odisha were in deep trouble, losing five wickets for 87 runs at the half-way stage. They managed to muster a competitive total, thanks to the partnership between Tanmayee and Alakananda.

Tanmayee hit eight boundaries and one six in her 106-ball knock, while Alakananda contributed a 69-ball 30. In reply, Karnataka rode on a half-century by Prerana GR to overhaul the target in 42.5 overs, losing three wickets in the process.
