Odisha high-jumper Swadhin Kumar Majhi won a bronze medal on the third and last day of the 1st National Under-23 Athletics Championship at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi today. He settled for the bronze by finishing third, clearing a height of 2.08 metre.
This was the only medal a five-member Odisha squad could gather from the National championship. It may be noted that all the five athletes belong to Bhubaneswar-based Reliance Foundation Odisha Athletics High Performance Centre.
Among the other four athletes, Nikhil Das finished joint 19th in mens high jump with an effort of 1.90m. Sprinter Aryan Ekka finished fourth in men 200m semifinal heat 2, 22.06 seconds. A Graceson Jeeva, who belongs to Tamil Nadu, finished fifth in mens 110m hurdles with a time of 14.73 seconds.
Susmita Tigga ended 8th in womens 3000m steeplechase taking a time of 11:46.21, while Sabita Toppo finished sixth in womens long jump, leaping to a distance of 5.85 metre.
