Kabir Hans, the top tennis player of Odisha, celebrated his successful progress from Junior to Senior National Circuit by winning the doubles title at the AITA 1 Lakh Mens Tournament in Bangalore today. He also reached singles semifinals before losing to Olympian J Vishnuvardhan.
Bhubaneshwar player Kabir won the doubles crown with Madhwin Kamath of Gujarat as his partner. In the final match, Kabir and Madhwin beat Oges Theyjo J (Tamil Nadu) and Sheikh Mohammad Iftikhar (Karnataka).
In singles competition, Kabir put up solid performance to reach semifinals as a qaualifier. He gave Asian Games medallist, Vishnuvardhan a good run for his money before losing 4-6, 4-6 in their last-four clash. Vishnu will play for the title tomorrow.
The tournament is being held at Padukone-Dravid Centre for Sports Excellence, PBI Tennis Academy, Bangalore, under the aegis of All India Tennis Association (AITA) from September 27. Kabir is now a BBA Student in KIIT University and an alumnus of KIIT International School.
