Impressive allround performance by captain Subhra Nirjharini Swain went in vain as Odisha lost to Punjab by two wickets in their fifth and last Elite Group-E league match of the BCCI Under-19 Women One-Day Tournament at K L Saini Stadium in Jaipur today.

The win over Odisha enabled Punjab to become group toppers with 20 points and qualify for the quarterfinals. On the other hand, Odisha finished fourth with eight points. Odisha won two matches and lost three in the group.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, Odisha rode on a half-century by Subhra Swain to compile a competitive total of 141 for seven. Subhra hit a 114-ball 60 with the help of eight boundaries. She gave her side a inspiring start, putting on 51 runs for the opening wicket with Alipsa Biswal, who contributed 23.

Chasing 142 for victory, Punjab were in a spot of bother, losing three wickets for 40. But a half-century by Pragatin Singh helped them clinch victory with three overs to spare. Among Odisha bowlers, Tanmayee Behera and Subhra Swain captured two wickets each.
