Odisha ended their Cooch Behar Trophy campaign on a disappointing note as they suffered an innings and 175-run defeat against Jharkhand in their fifth and last Elite Group-A match of the U-19 Men Cricket Tournament at Veerangan Cricket Academy Ground in Pune today. The four-day match ended within two days.
With this thumping win, Jharkhand qualified for the knock-out round, while Odisha bowed out of the tournament, finishing fifth in their group with two defeats, one win and two draws. Odisha dropped captain Shresth Singh and allrounder Saideep Mohapatra from their squad that lost to Uttar Pradesh in the previous match.
Gautam Suna and Ritesh Priyaranjan replaced Shresth and Saideep, while Sushil Barik was elevated as the captain of the Odisha team. But the changes did not make any difference as Odisha suffered the crushing defeat against Jharkhand due to atrocious batting.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, Odisha were bundled out for 54. In reply, Jharkhand made 305 to take a first-innings lead of 251 runs. In the second innings, Odisha folded up for 76 to suffer the innings defeat. Sahil Raj was the star of Jharkhand win, bagging five wickets in each innings.
