  Jr Hockey World Cup: Korea win a thriller; Pak maul USA

South Africa, Pakistan, Poland and Korea posted contrasting wins in respective classification matches to decide 9-16 position of the 12th Junior Men Hockey World Cup at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar today. The four mathes produced a total of 50 goals, which include 11 in shootout.

South Africa outshone Canada 7-3 in the first match of the day to register their first win in the tournament. Cameron le Forestier scored a hat-trick for the winners to be adjudged the Player of the Match. The result means South Africa will face Pakistan in the next match as they contest for 9-12 position. Canada will play continental neighbours USA as they seek a first win of the tournament.

Pakistan registered maximum number of goals scored by a team at the Junior World Cup to make mincemeat of the USA 18-2 in the next match. Pakistan captain Abdul Rana scored four goals to pocket the award as the Player of the Match.
 

Poland fought back from a goal down to beat Chile 2-1 in the third match of the day. Tomasz Bembenek scored the match-winner for Poland in the final minute of the hard-fought game. He was named the Player of the Match. Poland will now play Korea in the battle for a ninth place finish, while Chile will take on Egypt.

The last match of the day between Korea and Egypt proved to be the most exciting and best in the tournament. Lead changed hands several times before Korea won 6-5 in sudden-death shootout, which was applied after play in regulation time ended in 3-3 draw. Bae Soung Min was awarded as the Player of the Match.

Match 26: Pakistan (Abuzar 14-FG, 28-FG, 57-FG; Rizwan Ali 20-PC, 46-PC; Umair Sattar 23-FG, Rooman Khan 24-FG, Abdul Rehman 27-PC, Abdul Rana 27-PC, 33-PC, 35-FG, 54-FG; Moin Shakeel 36-FG, Abdul Manan37-FG, Mohsin Hassan 39-FG, Ghazanfar Ali 42-FG, Muhib Ullah 43-FG, Muhammad Hammadudin 56-FG) beat USA (Finlay Quaile 30-PC, 40-PC) 18-2. Player of the Match: Abdul Rana (PAK).

Match 27: Poland (Julian Blaszkiewicz 22-PC, Tomasz Bembenek 60-PC) beat Chile (Daniel Beroggi 9-PC) 2-1. Player of the Match: Tomasz Bembenek (POL).

Match 28: Korea (Hyunwoo Kim 18-PC, Jun Seong Jeong 20-PC, 58-PS) beat Egypt (Abdelrahman Elganayni 42-PC, 54-PC; Hossameldin Ragab 46-FG) 9-8, via shootout (Full time 3-3). Shootout: Korea (Soung Min Bae, Seung Ho Yoo, Min Su Cheon, Soung Min Bae, Min Su Cheon, Seung Ho Yoo) beat Egypt (Abdelrahman Elganayni, Khaled Elgandy, Hossameldin Ragab, Abdelrahman Elganayni, Khaled Elgandy) 6-5. Player of the Match: Soung Min Bae (KOR).
