Odisha achieved yet another sporting glory as Bhubaneswar boy Debasis Sahoo became the first tennis player from the State to be selected in the three-member Indian team for the 2022 Junior Davis Cup Qualifying Event, scheduled to be held at R K Khanna Tennis Stadium in New Delhi from April 11 to 16.

Other two players of the Indian team are: Rushil Khosla and Vans Nandal. Sajid Lodi will be the Captain of the team. Debasis is one of most promising tennis players of Odisha and currently stands as No 2 in AITA U-16 National rankings.

Son of Laxmee Kanta Sahoo and Anukampa Sahoo of Gandia, Dhenkanal, Debasis has the credit of winning around 35 AITA age-group titles since 2018. His parents have made great efforts to enable him come thus far.

Father Laxmee Kanta is currently living in Punjab alone due to his occupational requirement, while mother Anukampa stays in a rented house in Bhubaneswar for the purpose of enabling his son play tennis at Farhan Ali Tennis Academy in Patia.

Coach Farhan Ali has also made notable contribution for the development of Debasis as a tennis talent and he is very optimistic of his ward achieving greater laurels for the State and the country in the future.
