Odisha lad Debasis Sahoo won the singles title in the AITA National Series U-18 Tennis Tournament at Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Hyderabad today. In the nail-biting final, Debasis beat fourth seed Prajwal Tiwari of Maharashtra in 2-1 sets.

Bhubaneswar player Debasis took the first set 6-1, while Prajwal fought back to win the second set 6-3. In the third and deciding set, Debasis made a strong comeback to register a 6-2 win.

In his journey to the finals, Debasis upset top seed Skanda Prasanna Rao of Karnataka 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in quarterfinals and in the semifinals beat Mahalingam Kandhavel of Tamil Nadu 7-6, 6-3.

His coach Farhan Ali commented that Debasis had given an amazing performance by punching above his weight and that his growth graph is very positive.
