Saurashtra trounced Odisha by an innings and 131 runs on the fourth and last day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group-D match at Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground, Motera in Ahmedabad today. The win fetched Saurashtra seven points while Odisha drew blank.
Opting to bat after captain Jaydev Unadkat won the toss, Saurashtra compiled a massive total of 501, thanks to a double century by Player of the Match Chirag Jani and a half-century each by Sheldon Jackson and Arpit Vasavada. For Odisha, left-arm spinner Jayanta Behera was the most successful bowler, bagging four wickets for 148 runs.
In reply, Odisha were bowled out for 165 to concede a first-innings lead of 336 runs. Wicket-keeper Rajesh Dhuper, who hit a half-century in both innings of their opening match against Goa, saved Odisha from a total collapse, top-scoring with 51 (76 balls, 7x4, 2x6).
Needing 337 runs to avoid innings defeat, Odisha folded up for 205 in the second innings. Among Odisha batsman, Shantanu Mishra was the top scorer with a 159-ball 65, which included nine boundaries and one six. The half-century further strengthened the credibility of Mishra as a dependable batsman after his second-innings century against Goa in the previous match.
