  Odisha name strong squad for National Weightlifting Meet

Host Odisha would field a 66-member squad in the IWLF National Weightlifting Championship, which is set to be held at at Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium in KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar from 19 to 31 March 2022. The squad features 57 lifters, including 30 women, six coaches and three managers.

The championship would be conducted by Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF), in association with Odisha Weightlifting Association (OWA), with support from KIIT and Sports and Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha.

Over 1300 athletes, support staff and technical officials from 30 States and Union Terrytories are expected to participate. Competition will be held in 10 different weight categories for Youth (Sub-junior boys & girls), Junior & Seniors (men & women).

As many as 58 technical officials will be responsible for conducting the championship. This championship is the qualifier for the 5th Khelo India Youth Games, 2022 which is scheduled to be held later this year.

This will also be considered as a Selection Trial for the IWF Youth and Junior World Championships both for eligible lifters. IWLF will also be conducting the International Category- I & II and National Category- I & II, Referee Examination on March 20, 2022.
