  Kuldeep, Mihir lift 2 gold, 1 silver medals for Odisha

Host Odisha bagged two gold and one silver medal in the ongoing IWLF Youth, Junior and Senior National Weightlifting Championships at Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium in KIIT University, Bhubaneswar today. With these three medals, the total number medals bagged by Odisha rose to seven, which include two gold, two silver and three bronze.

Kuldeep Sahu captured the first gold for Odisha in youth men 73kg class, lifting 119kg in snatch and 146kg in clean & jerk for a total of 265kg, while Subrat Mallik finished 13th in the same weight category with a total lift of 208kg (snatch 90kg and clean & jerk 118kg).

 

Kuldeep also competed in junior men 73kg category, but finished sixth with efforts of 119kg in snatch and 146kg in clean & jerk for a total of 265kg. Mihir Kanta Sethi made Odisha proud, winning silver and gold in senior men 73kg class open and inter-state sections respectively, later in the day.

In the open competition, Mihir finished second with a total lift of 290kg, which included 127kg in snatch and 163kg in clean and jerk. But in inter-state format he stood first as N Ajith, the gold winner in open-format, belonged to Railways. Kanhu Charan Sahu of Odisha finished fifth in this weight category, lifting 120kg in snatch and 152kg in clean & jerk for a total of 272kg.

The women lifters from Odisha were in action today. Among them, Reema Bhoi finished fifth in senior women 59kg group with efforts of 74kg in snatch and 92kg in clean & jerk for a total of 166kg, while Aparajit Bhuyan could not get any rank, faulting all of her three lifts in clean & jerk. Aparajita lifted 73kg in snatch.

Moti Jani finished ninth in senior women 59kg category with efforts of 75kg in snatch and 92kg in clean & jerk for a total of 167kg, while Reema Bhoi finished 10th, lifting 74kg in snatch and 92kg in clean & jerk for a total of 166kg.
