Odisha lifter Punit Chandra Sahu created a New National Record in junior men 96kg clean & jerk, lifting 167kg at the IWLF Youth, Junior and Senior National Weightlifting Championships at Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar today.

Punit, in the process, broke the previous record of 165kg. But the record of Punit proved to be short-lived as Aman of Haryana bettered it twice with efforts of 170kg and 176kg. Punit eventually finished fifth with a total lift of 288kg, which included 121kg in snatch.

Two more lifters from Odisha were also in action today, but could not win any medal.
Lalit Kumar Sahu finished eighth in senior men 96kg clash with a total lift of 276kg. He lifted 126kg in snatch and 150kg in clean & jerk.

M Keerthi was the other Odisha lifter who finished fifth in junior women 76kg category with lifts of 70kg in snatch, 90kg in clean & jerk and 160kg in total.
