Uttar Pradesh Shivani Yadav clinched a silver medal for host Odisha with a total lift of 160kg in the junior women 87kg category at the IWLF National Weightlifting Championship at Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar today. She lifted 75kg in snatch and 85kg in clean & jerk.

Shivani represented UP in U-17 girls 40kg category at the Khelo India Youth Games 2020 in Guwahati. The 21-year-old UP lifter was included in the Government of India scheme Target Olympic Podium Programms (TOPS) in December 2021.

The silver of Shivani was the eighth medal for Odisha in the ongoing championship and came after five dry days. The eight medals include two gold, three silver and three bronze.

Earlier on March 29, five lifters from Odisha vied for medals but in vain. A Abhishikta was the most notable performer among the five, finishing sixth in youth women 81kg class with a total lift of 157kg.

ODISHA RESULTS (March 29):
Senior Men 102kg: Suresh Kumar Yadav finished ninth with lifts of 135kg in snatch, 174kg in clean & jerk for a total of 309kg.
Youth Women 81kg: K Abhishikta finished sixth with lifts of 70kg in snatch, 87kg in clean & jerk for a total of 157kg, while Bipasa Das ended eighth with 60kg in snatch, 75kg in clean & jerk and 135kg in total.
Junior Women 81kg: Swetalina Nayak finished eighth with 68kg in snatch, 85kg in clean & jerk and 153kg in total.
Senior Women 81kg: Rajeswari Behera finished 11th with 77kg in snatch, 102kg in clean & jerk and 179kg in total.
