Odisha emerged Senior Men Inter-State Team champions with a total of four medals and 183 points in the IWLF Youth, Junior and Senior National Weightlifting Championships, which concluded at Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar today. The four medals include one gold, one silver and two bronze.
Odisha bagged a total of eight medals in the championships. Odisha won the other four medals in the main competition. The four medals featured one gold, two silver and one bronze. Odisha ended campaign without a medal on the final day.
Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) won both the Senior Men and Women team titles in the main category of 13-day championships. Sanket Sargar of Maharashtra and Komal Kohar of Haryana bagged best lifter awards in senior men and women category respectively.
The closing ceremony of the championship was graced by Odisha Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera as chief guest. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were: Hockey Promotion Council Chairman Dilip Tirkey, Indian Weightlifting Federation President Sahdev Yadav, KIIT University Sports Director Genera Dr Gaganendu Dash, DSYS Joint SecretaryShailendra Jena and Odisha Wiightlifting Association (OWA) Secretary Narayan Sahu.
Sports Minister felicitated Naib Subedar Arjun Sahu with a memento and cash award during the closing ceremony. Weightlifter Arjun, who is also an inmate of DSYS Sports Hostel, had won the gold medal in the 12th World Body Building & Best Physique Championship held at Tashkent in Octobewr 21.
The event encompassed prowess of Youth and Junior weightlifters who have broke as many as 119 national records during the championships, whereas senior lifters created 10 new national records.

MAIN EVENTS: Kuldeep Sahu: Gold in youth men 73kg. Mihir Kanta Sethi: Silver in Senior Men 73kg. Shivani Yadav: Silver in Junior Women 87kg. Jhilli Dalabehera (RSPB): Bronze in Senior Women 49kg.
INTER-STATE EVENTS: Mihir Kanta Sethi: Gold in Senior Men 73kg. Muna Nayak: Silver in Senior Men 61kg. Sneha Soren: Bronze in Senior Women 49kg. Susant Sahu: Bronze in Senior Men 67kg.
ODISHA RESULTS (March 30):
Jagannath Gouda: Failed to do a single good lift in Junior Men 109kg. Sibaram Sahu: Finished ninth in senior men 109kg, lifting 127kg in snatch, 145kg in c&j and 272kg in total. Amarjit Maharana: Finished 7th in youth men +102kg, lifting 95kg in snatch, 133kg in clean & jerk and 228kg in total.
