  CK Nayudu Trophy: Odisha outplay Hyderabad

A five-wicket haul in the second innings by pacer Tarani Sa helped Odisha beat Hyderabad by 132 runs on the fourth and last day of their third and last Elite Group-C match of the Col C K Nayudu Trophy Cricket Tournament at St Xaviers KCA Ground in Trivandrum, Kerala today.

This was the second successive win for Odisha, but the achievements proved to be in vain as the State U-25 men team failed to make the cut for the knock-out stage. Odisha finished third in their group with 12 points from three matches.

In their second match, Odisha had beaten Madhya Pradesh by six wickets. But the innings defeat they had suffered against Jharkhand in the first game, cost them dear. Overall, Odisha put up respectable performance at the league stage.
 

Playing under new captain Kartik Biswal, Odisha asserted superiority in all departments of the match against Hyderabad, a team was reckoned as stronger on paper. Besides, Tarani Sa, other Odisha players who performed well were: captain Kartik Biswal, batters Debasish Samantray, Anil Parida and stumper Aashirwad Swain.

Biswal scored 49 and 55 with the bat in the two innings and captured three wickets in the first innings. Samantray hit 68 in the first innings, while Parida contributed 46 and 58 in his two innings. Swain slammed 69 in the first innings and effected a total of eight dismissals behind the stumps. He held three catches and did one stumping in each innings.
