Controversy overshadowed oncourt competiton for the second day at the Odisha Open 2022, a Badminton World Federation (BWF) Tour Super 100 Tournament, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack today. Though the day witnessed 42 matches, compared to 13 on the opening day, controversy surrounding Covid test reports, walk-overs and withdrawal of seeded players continued to diminish the reputation of the first-ever international badminton event of the State.
As regards competition, third seed Subhankar Dey (India), the top most in mens singles, booked his berth in the pre-quarterfinals, beating Jagadeesh Kalaga 21-18, 21-10. In womens singles, Junior World No 1 Tasnim Mir (India) and fifth seed Ashmita Chaliha (India) faced stiff competition before advancing to the last-16 round.
