HAO faced stiff fight in the quarterfinals against Hockey Madhya before winning the match 2-0 in shoot out. Play in the regulation time ended in 1-1 draw. HAO qualified for the quarterfinals, winning all three of their Pool-H matches with big margin. Led by Asmita Barla, HAO routed Telangana Hockey 14-0, Kerala Hockey 11-0 and Hockey Himachal 8-0.
Odisha Olympians Sunita Lakra and Lilima Minz came out of retirement to play for the State team after a long gap. Before leaving for Bhopal, the team had interaction with Olympian and HAO president Dilip Kumar Tirkey, State Sports Department joint-secretary Sailendra Kumar Jena and other officials at Kaling Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar on 4 May 2022.
