  All about JSW Swimming Projects in Odisha

Government of Odisha, in collaboration with JSW Group, has been implementing several programmes for development of swimming in the State. The Programmes include, High Performance Centre (HPC), Grassroot Training Centres and many more. Find here important information about the Programmes and the Agencies.

ABOUT OJSHPC:
*     Odisha JSW Swimming High Performance Centre (OJSHPC) is located at Biju Patnaik Swimming Pool Complex in Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.
*     OJSHPC is part of a network of HPCs being set up under the umbrella of the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS), the first privately-funded High Performance Centre in India established by JSW Group.
*     OJSHPC aims at developing Indian swimmers capable of achieving FINA-A Qualification times for World Championships and the Olympics in 8-12 years.
*     On 5 May 2022, JSW Group announced the appointments of South African coach Douglas Eager and Indian Olympian as well as Asiad medallist Sandeep Sejwal to lead OJSHPC.
*     Douglas was appointed as Technical Director, while Sejwal was engaged as Senior Coach.
*     Earlier, Sharath Chandra served as the Head Coach of the Odisha JSW Swimming HPC.
*     According to JSW Group, a total of 34 swimmers have already been identified as part of the HPC since its inception.

 

ABOUT GRASSROOTS SWIMMING CENTRES:
*     JSW Group has set up nine Grassroots Swimming Centre across the State.
*     The Centres are located in Bhubaneswar, Boudh, Sonepur, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Bolangir, Sambalpur and Jajpur.
*     The Grassroots Centres aim at getting more children to take up swimming as a life skill and create a performance pathway for swimmers in the state.
*     Sumit Kumar Sahoo, Senior Swim Teacher, Odisha-JSW Grassroots Swimming Training Centre, Bhubaneswar.
*     According to Sahoo, boys and girls, aged 5-12 years, have been learning swimming at the Bhubaneswar Grassroots Training Centre inside Kalinga Stadium.
*     Five to six batches of trainees, comprising 30 children in each batch, are being trained at the centre.
*     Training takes place in two sessions _ morning 6-8 AM and evening 4-7 PM.
*     Three coaches have been engaged for each batch of trainees.

ABOUT JSW GROUP:

ABOUT JSW SPORTS:
*     JSW Sports, which owns IPL team Delhi Capitals, ISL team Bengaluru FC and KPL team Haryana Steelers, is the sports arm of JSW Group.
*     On 15 March 2021, JSW Sports, in collaboration with Sports & Youth Services Department (DSYS), Government of Odisha announced the launch of Grassroot Swimming Programme, which was scheduled to commence from 1 April 2021.

ABOUT INSPIRE INSTITUTE OF SPORTS (IIS):
*     The Inspire Institute of Sport is the first privately funded high performance training centre for athletes in India.
*     Founded by the JSW Group, the facility is spread over 42 acres in Vijayanagar, Bellary district, Karnataka.
*     The institute provides full scholarships to athletes scouted from across the country in athletics, boxing, judo, swimming and wrestling.[
*     According to Parth Jindal, the founder of IIS, the inspiration for starting the institute came from the Olympic gold-medal win of Abhinav Bindra.
*     The construction of the institute began in 2014 and the inauguration of IIS took place on 15 August 2018.
