  Jr Men Natl Hockey: Haryana beat Odisha to win bronze

Hockey Association of Odisha (HAO) finished fourth in the 12th Hockey India Junior (U-20) Men National Championship after suffering a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Hockey Haryana in the bronze-medal match in Kovilpatti, Tamil Nadu today. Odisha had won the bronze medal in the last edition of the championship.

HAO started campaign, targeting gold medal. But after losing to Hockey Chandigarh 1-3 in the semifinals, they had to play for the third/fourth place. HAO reached semifinals, defeating Hockey Punjab 3-1 in the last quarterfinal match on May 25. HAO barged into the quarterfinals by winning all three of their league matches in Pool-C.
 

In their three league matches, HAO thrashed Hockey Rajathan 5-0, Le Puducherry Hockey 9-0 and Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey 5-1. Paulus Lakra was top scorer for HAO with six goals from three matches. He scored all of his six goals against Le Puducherry Hockey.

Led by Laban Lugun, the 18-member HAO team was given a warm send-off earlier on May 16. Odisha Sports & Youth Services Department Joint-Secretary Sailendra Jena and Hockey Association of Odisha General Secretary Sanatana Sahu interacted with the players and wished them all success.

19 May 2022: Hockey Association of Odisha (Deepak Minz 24-FG, 45-PC; Laban Lunug 33-PS, 40-PC; Rosan Kujur 34-FG) beat Hockey Rajasthan 5-0. PoM: Laban Lugun.
22 May 2022: Hockey Association of Odisha (Deepak Minz 10-FG, Rosan Kujur 13-PC, Paulus Lakra 18-FG, 29-PC, 43-FG, 49-FG, 53-FG, 59-FG; Akash Soreng 35-PC) beat Le Puducherry Hockey 9-0.
24 May 2022: Hockey Association of Odisha (Roshanjeet Minz 15-FG, 26-PC; Laban Lunug 17-PS, Sumit Kindo 36-FG, Deepak Minz 38-FG) beat Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey (Niyaren Champiya 40-FG) 5-1. PoM: Akash Soreng (HAO).
25 May 2022 (QF): Hockey Association of Odisha (Akash Soreng 22-PC, Sanjay Ekka 41-FG, Dabuka Purti 46-FG) beat Hockey Punjab (Bharat Thakur 3-FG) 3-1. PoM: Komal Soreng (HAO).
27 May 2022 (SF): Hockey Association of Odisha (Laban Lugun 2-PC, 37-PC) lost to Hockey Chandigarh (Rohit 8-PC, Inderpal Singh 43-FG) 1-3 in shootout (Regulation time 2-2 draw). Shootout Scorers: Chandigarh (Raman, Harpanthpreet Singh, Amritpal Singh) beat Odisha (Sumit Kindo).
29 May 2022 (Bronze-medal match): Hockey Association of Odisha lost to Hockey Haryana (Shubham 10-FG, Toshant 44-FG, Vikas 58-FG) 0-3.
