Shiyam Satyansh and Jyotika Sahoo won the open and girls titles respectively in the Odisha State Under-10 Chess Championships, which concluded at Sailabala Womens College in Cuttack today.
A total of 117 players, including 37 in girls category, participated in the championship, which was inaugurated by Odisha Sahitya Academy Secretary Prabodh Kumar Rout. The championship carried a total cash prize of Rs 20,000. The title winners will be given a bicycle each.
The two-day championship was organised by Triple C Chess Club and Master Chess Foundation, under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA). Aryan Behera and Ritika Jena finished runner-up.
Sailabala Womens College Principal Surekha Sundari Swain joined the prize distribution ceremony as chief guest. All India Chess Federation joint-secretary Ranjan Mohanty, AOCA Secreary Debabrata Bhatta, SR Chess Center secretary Satya Ranjan Pattnaik, Triple C Chess Club President Kamalakanta Bisoi, chairman Santosh Kumar Mohapatra, secretary Biranchi Narayan Sahoo and Master Chess Foundation founder Bikram Keshari Biswal were present on the occasion.
Top two finishers each category qualified to represent Odisha State in the 34th National U-10 Chess Championships, to be held at The Kangra Fort, Barnai, Jammu from 26 April 1 May 2022.
