  KIUG: Lifter Moti, swimmer Pratyasa bag silver medal

Odisha universities won two silver medals on the second day of the 2nd Khelo India University Games 2021 (KIUG) in Bangalore, Karnataka today. The two medals were captured by weightlifter Moti Jani and swimmer Pratyasa Ray.

With the two silver today, the total number of Odisha universities became five. Earlier on the opening day, three medals (one gold, one silver and one bronze) were claimed by Odisha lifters.

Representing Bhubaneswar-based Deemed KIIT to be University, Moti Jani won the silver medal in womens 59kg class, lifting 74kg in snatch and 94kg in clean & jerk for a total of 168kg.

 

In swimming, Pratyasa Ray of Utkal University pocketed the silver medal in womens 100m backstroke event, clocking 1:09.72 seconds. Pratyasa is a trainee at the Odisha JSW Swimming High Performance Centre, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

Two other Odisha lifters put up notable performances but missed medal narrowly. Aparajita Bhuyan of KIIT finished fifth in women 59kg class, lifting 72kg in snatch, 86kg in clean & jerk and 158kg in total, while Sangeeta Padhy of Berhampur University finished fourth in women 64kg class with total lift of 169kg (snatch 77kg, clean & jerk 92kg ).

In men hockey, Sambalpur University rode on a hat-trick by Nabin Kujur to hold Bangalore City University to a 3-3 draw in Pool B league. Kujur scored the three goals in the 39th, 42nd and 52nd minutes.
