  CWG 2022 Birmingham: India finish 4th with 61 medals

India secured fourth position with a total of 61 medals in the final medals table of the 22nd Commonwealth Games, which concluded in Birmingham, England today. The 61 medals featured 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze.

Australia topped the medal tally with a total of 178 medals (67 gold, 57 silver, 54 bronze), followed by host England at the second position with a total of 176 medals (57 gold, 66 silver, 53 bronze).

With addition of the 61 medals in the 22nd edition, the total number of medals bagged by India in the Commonwealth Games since independence has reached 564, which features 203 gold, 190 silver and 171 bronze.

Before the 2022 edition, India had bagged an overall total of 503 medals (181 gold, 174 silver, 148 bronze) at the Commonwealth Games. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, India bagged a total of 66 medals (26 gold, 20 silver, 20 bronze).

The first medal for India in the 2022 Commonwealth Games was bagged by Sanket Mahadev Sargar with a silver in weightlifting. The first gold medal was claimed by Olympian Mirabai Chanu, also in weightlifting.
