Hockey Association of Odisha (HAO), in association with Odisha Hockey Promotion Council (OHPC), started its first Coaching Education Program at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar today, for developing hockey coaches in the state. This was disclosed by the Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha through its Twitter handle, @sports_odisha.

David John, Director of Hockey, Odisha is the instructor for this course. On the first day, women hockey players from Sports Hostel, Bhubaneswar were part of this program along with Olympians Sunita Lakra and Lililma Minz.

Most of these players were part of the team that recently won the gold medal in the 12 Hockey India Senior Women National Championship last month in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

This course will run in batches for the next few days and will help more hockey players from the state take up coaching as a profession. The total number of aspiring coaches who joined the programme has not been revealed.

Odisha hockey Olympian Lazarus Barla and office-bearers of HAO were present on the occasion of the launching of the coaching programme.
