India finished joint ninth with China in the FIH Hockey Women World Cup, defeating Japan 3-1 in their last classification match at Estadio Olimpic de Terrassa in Spain today. Vice-captain and Odisha Olympian Deep Grace Ekka scored one goal in the India win.
Earlier in their first classification match for the 9th to 16th position, India edged out Canada 3-2 in shootout after play in the regulation time ended in 1-1 draw at Estadio Olimpic de Terrassa. India had to play the classification matches after losing in their crossover match against Spain, won 1-0 at Estadio Olimpic de Terrassa to qualify for the quarterfinals.
