Jyoshna Sabar won the first medal for Odisha on the opening day of the Khelo India Women National Ranking Weightlifting Tournament (Phase-2) at Modinagar, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh today. A trainee of Bhubaneswar-based Tenvic-Odisha Weightlifting High Performance Centre, Jyoshna bagged silver medal in youth 40kg class with a total lift of 118 kg, which included 51kg in snatch and 67kg in clean & jerk.
TOP Scheme athlete Akanksha Vyavhare won the gold with new National Records in all categories of the Youth 40kg category. She lifted 60kg in snatch, 71kg in clean & jerk for a total of 131kg. The bronze went to Kaken Doyom.
Odisha has fielded a 17-member squad in the ongoing tournament, which would conclude on November 2. The squad has been accompanied by coaches K Ravi Kumar, Jangya Narayan Nanda, Katila Venkatalakshmi, Tukuni Badamundi, Lucky Rani Patra and Sanjukta Sahoo.
