Home team Khordha claimed the title in the 1st Hockey Association of Odisha (HAO) Junior Women Hockey Championships by beating Sundargarh 2-0 in a closely contested final match at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar today. KIIT-KISS won the bronze medal, defeating Dhenkanal 7-0 in the 3rd/4th place match.
The tournament, featuring players from 20 districts teams across Odisha and two institutions and academies, was organized by HAO with the support of Department of Sports & Youth Services (DSYS), Government of Odisha and KIIT University.
Guests for the finals included Odisha hockey Olympian Lajrus Barla, OSD Sonali Chand, HAO Vice-President Jeeban Mohanty and Odisha Hockey Director David John.
HAO President Dilip Tirkey said congratulated Khordha team for becoming champions. KIIT University provided accommodation for players during the tournament.
INDIVIDUAL AWARDS: Best Goalkeeper: Neha Kindo (Sundargarh), Best Defender: Suman Hemrom (Khordha), Best Mid-Fielder: Amisha Ekka (Sundargarh), Best Forward: Prathibha Ekka (Khordha), Player of the Tournament: Aliva Jate (KIIT-KISS).
