  Amit, Nilam selected for Hockey Mens World Cup 2023

Odisha defenders Amit Rohidas and Nilam Sanjeep Xess were today selected in an 18-member Indian team for the FIH Mens World Cup, scheduled to be held from 13 to 29 January 2023 in Bhubaneswar-Rourkela, Odisha. Hockey India, announced selected the squad from 33 probables after a two-day trial in the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Bengaluru centre.

Harmanpreet Singh has been named captain of the Indian team, while Amit Rohidas will be his deputy. India, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist, will look to end its 47-year drought for the World Cup. It last won the trophy in 1975. In the 2018 World Cup, held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India were knocked out by the Netherlands in the quarterfinals.
 

India is clubbed in Pool D along with England, Spain and Wales. The Men in Blue will play their first two games against Spain and England at the newly built Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela on January 13 and 15.

They will move to Bhubaneswar to play their third and last pool match against Wales on January 19. The knockout stage will begin with crossover matches on January 22 and 23 and the quarterfinals on January 25 and semifinals on January 27. The bronze medal match and the final will be held in Bhubaneswar on January 19.

Standbys: Rajkumar Pal, Jugraj Singh. Head Coach: Graham Reid.
