Defending champions and 2020 Olympic gold medallists Belgium survived a scare in the 15th FIH Mens Hockey World Cup as they came back from 1-2 down to draw their second Pool-B match 2-2 against Germany at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today. South Korea beat Japan 2-1 in another Pool-B match earlier in the day.
Japan got off to a flying start as Ken Nagayoshi converted a penalty corner within 70 seconds after the start of the match to give his team a 1-0 lead. But the Koreans roared back to win the hard-fought match with Lee Jungjun scoring two field goals in the eighth and 23rd minutes.
Japan had an opportunity draw the match as they earned a penalty corner with just two seconds left on the clock. But due to a failed trap at the top of the circle, the opportunity went abegging. This was the first win for Korea and second defeat for Japan.
