  KIYG 2022: Odisha kayak-canoe paddlers win 8 medals

Kayaking and canoeing paddlers have made Odisha proud by bagging all eight medals for the State by the end of fourth day of the 4th Khelo India Youth Games which is being held in eight cities of Madhya Pradesh from 30 January 2023. The eight medals include three gold, two silver and three bronze.

With these eight medals, Odisha has jumped to the third place in the medal tally. Maharashtra lead the tally with eight gold, six silver and seven bronze for a total of 21 medals. Host Madhya Pradesh occupies the second place with a total of 11 medals, which include eight gold and three silver.

 

Kayaking and canoeing event is taking place at the Upper Lake in Bhopal. All the Odisha medallists are trainees of SAI SAG Water Sports Centre, Jagatpur, Cuttack. Odisha has fielded a 150-member contingent in the ongoing Games. Odisha is competing in 14 disciplines.

ODISHA MEDALLISTS:
*     Tomthilnganba Ngashepam and Irom Borish Singh won the first medal for Odisha bagging Silver medal in canoe sprint  K-2 mens 1000m on Feb 1.
*     Tomthilnganba Ngashepam won Bronze medal in canoe sprint K-1 mens 1000m on Feb 1.
*     Shingam Avinash Singh and Phairembam Borish Singh won Bronze medal in canoe sprint C-2 mens 2000m on Feb 1.
*     Laishram Borish Singh finished fourth in mens C-1 1000m on Feb 1.
*     Madhusmita Nayak and Leichonbam Neha Devi won Bronze medal in canoe sprint C-2 womens 500m on Feb 2.
*     Luxmi Chanu and Shruti Chougle won Silver medal in canoe sprint K-2 womens 500m on Feb 2.
*     Thangsabam Diamond Meitei, Tomthilnganba Ngashepam, Irom Borish Singh and Satyam Baliyan won Gold medal in canoe sprint K-4 mens 500m category on Feb 2.
*     Shruti Chougule, Leichonbam Sonia Devi, Pukhrambam Roji Devi and Thongam Luxmi Chanu won Gold medal in kayaking K-4 womens 500m on Feb 2.
*     Roji Devi won Gold medal in canoe sprint K-1 womens 500m on Feb 2.
