  KIYG 2022: Odisha kho-kho girls bag gold, boys win bronze

Odisha achieved outstanding success in the kho-kho competition of the 4th Khelo India Youth Games, bagging one gold and one bronze at Ranital Sports Complex in Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh) today. Odisha U-18 girls team clinched the gold medal, defeating Maharashtra in the final 32-26.

Odisha U-18 boys team settled for the bronze medal after defeating West Bengal by 14-12 in the hardline match. Odisha boys started their campaign with a 36-22 win over Chhattisgarh on January 30.

They next beat Rajasthan 24-10 on January 31. But after posting two wins, Odisha boys suffered two defeats, losing to Delhi 30-48 on and to Maharashtra 28-34 in the next two days.

 

Odisha girls were unstoppable in the competition and registered three wins in a row to storm into the final. They started their winning run with a 22-18 win against West Bengal on January 31 and continued in the same vein beating Karnataka 24-20 and Punjab 22-18 in the next two days.

The Odisha girls and boys teams, featuring 15 players each, were led by Kadambini Majhi and Pabani Sabar respectively.
