Odisha made an impressive start in athletics events of the 4th Khelo India Youth Games in Madhya Pradesh, capturing two gold medals at Tatya Tope Stadium in Bhopal today. The two yellow metals were pocketed by sprinter Dondapati Mruty Jayaram and long jumper Sabita Toppo.
Jayaram emerged as the fastest boy of the Khelo India Youth Games 2022, winning the 100 metre sprint with a time of 10.53 seconds. It would have been a National youth record for Jayaram but for wind assistance.
A trainee of Bhubaneswar-based Reliance Foundation Odisha Athletics High Performace Centre, Jayaram bettered the previous Youth National Record time of 10.65 seconds, which had been set by Ritik Malik in 2019. But the time of Jayaram was not counted as a new National Record as he achieved it with a wind assistance of +2.2m/s n then the permissible limit of +2.0m/s n.
