  Sr Natl Gymnastics: Silver for Tapan, Bronze for Rakesh

Odisha gymnasts Tapan Mohanty and Rakesh Kumar Patra bagged one silver and one medal respectively in the Senior National Artistic Gymnastics Championship, which was held at Lovely Professional University, Phagwada, Punjab from 26 to 29 November 2022.

Mohanty secured the in rings event, scoring 12.700. Swathish KP (Kerala) won the gold with a score of 13.300, while the bronze medal went to Anand Patere (SSCB) with 12.600. This was the first medal for Mohanty in Senior National Championship.

 

A protegee of India coach Ashok Mishra, Mohanty has the distinction of winning two medals in Junior National Championships. A native of Puri, Mohanty started his career at State Government-run Sports Hostel in Puri where he spent six years. Thereafter he has been honing his skills at SAI East Zone Centre in Kolkata.

Legendary gymnast Patra, secured the bronze medal in parallel bars with a score of 13.033. Also belonging to Puri, Patra has the record of winning more than 10 international medals, including bronze in Commonwealth Championship.

The current Senior National Artistic Gymnastics Championship was organised by Punjab Gymnastics Association, under the aegis of Gymnastics Federation of India.
