  Chief Minister inaugurates Birsa Munda Athletic Stadium

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today inaugurated multiple sports projects in Sundargarh district. The infrastructe projects include the Birsa Munda Athletic Stadium Complex in Rourkela and three and Hockey Training Centres in Birsa, Lahunipara and Manchmara.

The Birsa Munda Athletic Stadium Complex features an athletics stadium with 400m synthetic track and a natural turf football field with floodlights. The stadium has four galleries with a seating capacity of around 9,000 spectators, changing rooms for players, lounges and other ancillary facilities for hosting national level competitions.

 

The complex also houses an Olympic-size indoor swimming pool along with players changing rooms and allied facilities. With a seating arrangement for 500 spectators, the pool is equipped to host regional-level competitions.

A multi-level car parking for over 180 vehicles and commercial office spaces are also part of the complex, which is spread over 11 acres and built at a total coast of Rs 148 crore.

The hockey training centres have Category-3 FIH certified synthetics turf with changing rooms for players, admin room, gymnasium, first-aid room and seating arrangement for 200 spectators. Each facility is spread over three acres with project cost of over Rs 11 crore per centre.

Private Secretary to Chief Minister, V Karthikeyan Pandian along with Sports & Youth Services Secretary R Vineel Krishna, Sundargarh Collector Dr Parag Harshad Gavali, Rourkela MLA Sarada Prasad Nayak and Raghunathpali MLA Subrat Tarai were present in these events.
