  Natl Youth Athletics: Gold for Basha, Bronze for Kullu

Odisha bagged one gold and one bronze medal on the second day of the 18th National Youth Athletics (Under-18) Championship at Uduppi in Karnataka today. Mohammad Reyan Basha emerged as the fastest man of the three-day championship, winning the gold medal in 100m sprint.

An inmate of Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics High Performance Centre, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, Basha clocked 10.96 seconds. The silver and bronze medals in event were awarded to Sangineni Harsha of Telengana and OM Rajendra of Maharashtra.

Nitish Kullu secured the bronze medal for Odisha in 110m hurdles for men, clocking 14.23 seconds. Kullu, also a trainee of Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics HPC, finished third while his statemate Rajendra Sidhu finished fifth with the time of 14.38 seconds.

 

Sandip Vinod Gond of Maharashtra won the gold medal in 13.86 seconds and qualified for the Youth Asian Athletics Championship which is scheduled to be held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from 20 to 23 April 2023. Silver medal won by Kerala boy Kiran K, who clocked 14.22 seconds.

Among other Odisha athletes, Bapi Hasnda qualified for the final in 400m hurdles and Md Reyan Basha for the 200m semifinal which will take place tomorrow. A seven member squad, including two women, is representing Odisha in the Youth National Championship.
