  Indian GP-1: Kishore wins gold, Amiya settles for silver

Odisha javelin thrower Kishore Kumar Jena and sprinter Amiya Kumar Mallick captured gold and silver medal respectively in the Indian Grand Prix 1, which was conducted by Athletics Federation of India at Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE) in Trivandrum, Kerala today.

Jena won the gold medal with a personal-best throw of 81.05 metres. The silver and bronze medal were secured by Manu DP (Karnataka) and Arshdeep Singh (Punjab) with efforts of 80.61 metre and 75.67 metre respectively.

 

Jena improved his previous personal best of 78.93m which he had achieved at the 2nd Indian Open Throws Competition in Bellary, Karnataka on 1 March 2023. This is for the first time that he breached the 80m mark.

National Record holder Mallick won the silver medal by finishing second in 100m sprint, clocking 10.69 seconds. Maldives sprinter Hassan Saaid won the gold with a time of 10.67 seconds, while the bronze medal went to Amit Tiwari of Delhi with 10.90 seconds.

Mallick has been holding the 100m National Record of 10.26 seconds since 28 April 2016. Indian Grand Prix 2 will also be held at LNCPE Trivandrum on March 27. This will be followed by Indian Grand Prix 3 and 4 at Bangalore on April 2 and April 10 respectively.
