  Aahaan wins maiden AITA crown with a double

Odisha boy Aahaan Mishra won his maiden All India Tennis Association (AITA) title by emerging both singles and doubles champion at the MOSF AITA-OTA U-14 Talent Series Tournament at Gurukul Resorts Tennis Academy in Mendhashala, Bhubaneswar today.

Bhubaneswar lad Aahaan won the two-and-half-hour-long singles final, defeating his Statemate Raunak Gilra 6-0, 2-6, 6-2. In the third and final set, Aahaan used his powerful forehand shots to overcome the challenge of Raunak who settled as runner-up.

 

In the doubles final, Aahaan and his partner Raunak registered an easy win, outplaying Odisha opponents Sutavya Karmakar and Jagat Jyoti Pati 6-1, 6-1. The tournament was organised by Mission Olympics Sports Foundation (MOSF), under the aegis of Odisha Tennis Association (OTA) .

Aahaan earned 15 AITA ranking points from this tournament. He is currently ranked 176th in India. “But the way Aahaan is performing he might crack top 30 by the end of this year,” said his coach Santosh Mallik.

Ashmita Bhowmik of West Bengal laso clinched a double crown by winning both the singles and doubles title in girls category yesterday. In singles final, Ashmita beat Sanrachna Das (WB) 6-2, 6-2. Ashmita and her partner Sanrachna won the doubles against Odisha combination of Rachel Das and Divyaly Ray 6-1, 6-2.
