  Swimming: Pratyasa wins international medal

Odisha swimming ace Pratyasa Ray today won the silver medal in woman 50m backstroke event of the Thailand Age Group Swimming Championships, which is being held at Aquatic Centre, Assumption University, Bangkok from April 6.

Pratyasa finished second, clocking 31.73 seconds. Saovanee (Thailand) and Mahi Swetraj (India) won the gold and bronze medal respectively with timings of 29.26 and 32.22 seconds respectively.

 

Pratyasa is part of a 16-member squad from Bhubaneswar-based Odisha JSW Swimming High Performance Centre, representing India on behalf of Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in this week-long international championship, which would conclude on April 11.

This is an international exposure competition for the swimmers and aims at helping them prepare for the upcoming swimming season in India. Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha has facilitated the Thailand tour of the squad.

Women: Anshika Sahoo, Divyanka Pradhan, Maanya Mukta Manesh, Mannata Mishra, Pratyasa Ray, Shristi Upadhyay, Sonia Patel, Varda Satpathy.
