Odisha woman swimmer Shristi Upadhaya made her international debut memorable, bagging three bronze medals in the Thailand Age Group Swimming Championships, which concluded at Assumption University Aquatic Centre in Bangkok today.
Bhubaneswar swimmer Shristi completed the treble of sorts, winning her third bronze medal in 200m butterfly, clocking 02:32.37. Earlier she won one bronze each in 50m and 100m butterfly events with timings of 29.09 and 1:04.42 respectively.
Shristi also achieved her new personal best timings in 50m and 100m butterfly events. She was part of the 16-member squad from Bhubaneswar-based Odisha JSW Swimming High Performance Centre that represented Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS) in the Thailand Age Group Championships.
The squad, featuring mostly Odisha swimmers, ended its campaign with one gold, two silver and three bronze medals. Odisha ace Pratyasa Ray bagged both the silver medals, finishing second in womens 50m and 200m backstroke events.
Indian Railway swimmer Pavan Gupta, who trains at Odisha JSW Swimming HPC in Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, won the lone gold medal in 50m freestyle with a time of 23.24 seconds.
