Odisha contended itself with just one medal on the ninth day of the 4th Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2022 in Madhya Pradesh today. Weightlifter Mina Santa (A) bagged the lone medal with a bronze in women 55kg weight class at the Basketball Complex in Indore.
Mina lifted 75kg in snatch and 90kg in clean & jerk for total of 165kg. This was the third medal for Odisha in weightlifting with Jyoshna Sabar and Priteesmita Bhoi securing silver and bronze respectively in women 40kg category earlier on February 6.
Like Jyoshna and Priteesmita, Mina ia also a trainee of Odisha Weightlifting High Performance Centre, Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. A 12-member weightlifting squad, featuring five boys and seven girls, is representing Odisha in the Khelo India Youth Games.
Despite getting just one bronze today, Odisha maintained its fifth place in the medal tally with a total of 23 medals. The 23 medals featured nine gold, five silver and nine bronze.
Meanwhile, Odisha U-18 men and women hockey teams booked semifinal berths by winning respective last pool match in Gwalior today. Odisha men beat Chandigarh 7-4, while their women blanked Punjab 4-0.
