  KIYG: Odisha rowers end campaign with 4 medals

Odisha rowers bagged one gold, one silver and one bronze today to end their campaign with a total of four medals in the 4th Khelo India Youth Games at the Upper Lake in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on an impressive note. Odisha had started campaign with a silver yesterday.

The lone gold medal was captured by Sumit Kumar Swain and Ravi Bedwal in JM2-F1 Rowing, clocking 3:37.29. Gursharanpreet Kaur and Arunprit Kaur secured the silver medal for Odisha in JW2XF1 event, clocking 4:10.28.

Odisha bagged the bronze medal through Subhashree Susmita Biswal, Soumyashree Panda, Barsharani Sethi and Priti Prangya Sahoo in JW4-F1 with a time of 4:02.24. Rahul Rathore, Sourabh, Kapeesh Kumar and Chandan Raja Swain had won the first rowing medal for Odisha in JM4X event yesterday.

 

An 11-member rowing squad, featuring six boys and five girls, represented Odisha in the 4th Khelo India Youth Games 2022. All the 11 rowers are trainees of Sports Authority of India (SAI) National Centre of Excellence (NCOE), Jagatpur, Cuttack.

After the end of Day-11, Odisha stood sixth in the medal tally with a total of 27 medals, which included 11 gold, six silver and 10 bronze. Maharashtra continued to top the medal tally with 44 golds, followed by Haryana (38 gold) and Madhya Pradesh (28 gold) in second and third positions respectively.

Meanwhile Odisha U-18 Men Hockey Team put a spectacular performance to defeat Jharkhand by a solitary goal in the semi-final clash in Gwalior. Irengbam Rohit Singh scored the all-important goal in the 23rd minute. Odisha will meet Madhya Pradesh in the final tomorrow.

Jharkhand, however, avenged the defeat as their U-18 Women Hockey Team beat Odisha in the semifinals 3-1. Puja Sahoo scored the consolation goal for Odisha, converting a penalty corner in the 39th minute. Odisha women will now fight for bronze medal against Haryana tomorrow.
