Odisha achieved a historic success in tennis as Sohini Sanjay Mohanty and Aradhyaa Verma won the girls doubles gold medal in the 4th Khelo India Youth Games at Indore Tennis Club in Indore, Madhya Pradesh today.
Youngest pair of the event, Sohini and Aradhyaa emerged champions, defeating host Madhya Pradesh combination of Pehal Kharadkar and Amishi Shukla in the exciting final 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3).
Bhubaneswar duo Sohini and Aradhya started their campaign with a walk-over against Telangana duo Laxmi Siri Dandu and Sanjana Sirimalla in the quarterfinals. They entered the final, overcoming the stiff challenge of Hannah Nagpal and Saumrita Jagatdeo Verma of Uttar Pradesh 7-5, 7-5 in semifinals.
Sohini and Aradhyaa were accompanied by coach Farhan Ali. This was the first medal in the tennis discipline of the Khelo India Youth Games and drew praise from Odisha Tennis Association and the Department of Sports & Youth Services, Government of Odisha.
