  KIYG 2022: Odisha end campaign with 30 medals

Curtains came down on the 4th Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2022 in Madhya Pradesh with Maharashtra, with a haul of 56 gold, 55 silver and 50 bronze medals emerged the overall champions. Haryana were awarded the 1st Runner-up Trophy for their haul of 40 gold, 28 silver and 50 bronze medals.

Host Madhya Pradesh took home the 2nd Runner-up Trophy with a haul of 39 gold, 30 silver and 27 bronze medals. Odisha finished ninth with a total of 30 medals, which featured 11 gold, eight silver and 11 bronze.

A 152-member Odisha contingent bettered their medal haul of the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games, which was held in Panchkula, Haryana from 4 to 13 June 2022. Odisha finished 26th with one gold, five silver and three bronze for a total of nine medals.

 

In the KIYG 2022, Odisha bagged 11 medals (4 gold, 3 silver, 4 bronze) in kayaking & canoeing, seven in athletics (4 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze), four in rowing (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze), four in weightlifting (1 silver, 3 bronze) two in kho-kho (1 gold, 1 bronze), one gold in tennis and one silver in hockey.

The closing ceremony was attended among others by the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur and MP Sports Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia.

The KIYG 2022 saw over 6000 athletes and support staff from 36 states and union territories of the country converge into nine cities over 13 days of competition in 27 sporting disciplines.

Eight of those cities, Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Maheshwar, Balaghat, Mandla, Jabalpur and Gwalior, were spread across Madhya Pradesh, while Delhi hosted the track cycling events. A total of 25 national youth records were shattered by 12 athletes during the period of the games.
