  Santosh Trophy: Odisha stun Goa; Karnataka upset Kerala

In a day of upsets, hosts Odisha pulled off a stunning 4-1 victory over five-time champions Goa, while Karnataka edged out defending champions Kerala 1-0 in respective Group-A matches of the 76 th Senior Men National Football Championship Final Round for Santosh Trophy in Bhubaneswar today.

Odisha established their dominance from the early stages of the match at Kalinga Stadium. After midfielder Bikash Sahoo opened the scoring in the 11th minute, Chandra Murmu doubled the lead after 28 minutes.
 

Mohammed Faheez (45+1) reduced the margin for eight-time finalists Goa seconds before half-time. Rahul Mukhi scored in the 79th minute to further consolidate the advantage for the home team. Oram Anand completed emphatic win for Odisha with a strike in injury time (90+6).

Karnataka rode an early goal to beat Kerala 1-0 at OSAP 7th Battalion Ground. Abhishekh Shankar Powar scored the precious goal in the 20th minute. In other Group-A game, Punjab edged past Maharashtra 4-3 at OSAP 7th Battalion Ground.

Kamaldeep (21), Jaginder Singh (53), Rohit Sheikh (71) and Parmjit Singh (90’+1) scored once each for Punjab, while Armash Ansari (39), Himanshu Patil (65), Pavan Mali (69) netted one each for Maharashtra.

After two rounds of games, three teams – Odisha, Punjab and Karnataka – all have four points. But thanks to their superior goal difference, Odisha currently occupy top spot in Group A.
